Do rats live and breed in Ivy?

I've got a large patch of Ivy in my back yard and someone recently mentioned that it might become a breeding ground for rats. I like the color the Ivy brings to my backyard but don't want to invite swarms of rats to my neighborhood. Is it true that large patches of Ivy will invite rats to live there?Do rats live and breed in Ivy?
Rats like any dark cover be it ivy or attics, etc. Food and water sources also determine rats' presence. Dog food, cat food, dropping fruit in your yard or neighbors is as much an attractant as the ivy.
