Ration rice has always been great to protect against rats. In fact, it was given to soldiers for this very reason.
I know you aren't supposed to give rabbits lots of cabbage - they are both rodents so maybe the same for rats?
Rice can explode 'em, but they don't do too well on egg whites either (see link).





Don't tell Ratatouille.
Some foods can not be metabolised by certain animals. For instance dogs can die from eating chocolate. Try this. Ask around about what cats and dogs should never eat and experiment with those foods. Also just pick up the phone and see if someone from the biological department might help. Scientists can sometimes be friendly :)
