Are you sure they are both male? If so go ahead, but if you are unsure rats mate in two seconds so be on your toes. Also rats should be kept in pairs or groups and they should never be kept alone. They are extremely smart and need other rats for stimulation and companionship.

NEVER EVER EVER KEEP RATS ALONE!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY NEED COMPANIONSHIP!!!! THEY ARE VERY SOCIAL CREATURES AND NEED FRIENDS! Just make sure you give them proper time to adjust and learn how to do it correctly. Also, make sure you get the same gender or you will have tons of unwanted babies.
If you keep rats alone, they get depressed. They are extremely social creatures, and should only be kept alone if they are aggressive towards other rats which is very rare. You need to get him a male playmate.
