What can and cant you feed pet rats?

i have 4.What can and cant you feed pet rats?
For their main diet, you should feed them lab blocks. Lab blocks are complete nutrition, rats can't just pick out their favorite pieces and leave the rest. Harlan is the best but you can only buy it online. Mazuri is a decent brand and can be found in stores. You should feed mixes every couple of days for variety. Store bought mixes aren't really good for rats. I suggest you try one of the two homemade mixes linked below. Rats should be given healthy foods as treats everyday, just stay away from junk food and anything listed on the ';bad foods'; list.

You can give them almost anything you see fit, just use your better judgment. Try to stay away from spicy foods or certain foods that can cause gas (Since rats cannot ';Relieve'; themselves of it) Which can result in a very painful death.

My advice would be to get some food called ';Nutri-Bloc';, I used to feed mine that and found it very good for them since it eliminated the problem of them choosing one type of seed out of the mix and leaving the rest to be ruined.
There isn't anything that a Rat won't necessarily eat. However, it is unhealthy to give them excessively fatty and sugary table scraps. Veggies and Fruits are always a great treat for my Rat. Just stay away from tons of Lettuce. While they seem to love it, if they eat too much it can cause diarreah.

Basically, anything from Nuts, Fruit, Veggies, Treats bought in a Pet Store, and some table scraps are okay for a Rat to eat. Some will even enjoy a bit of meat, and it adds protein to their diet.

Just stay away from fatty or sugary people food. Not really good for Humans, and not really good for Rats. :)
the only real risky food i would warn against is oranges, believe it or not. they have been linked with vision loss in rats. seems odd, and i cant cite the place i learned that from off the top of my head, but it was a vetrinary journal of some sort. other than oranges, virtually anything in moderation. rat-specific feeds should be the staple, but treat-wise, rats are very easy to accomadate :) just dont spoil them-my rats will only eat jelly-belly jelly beans... got some other brands at easter and they wont touch those! lol!
well. you can give them like everything. just try to stay away from junk foodf. get boy rats. cause there not that mean, and they cant have babys. so just do that and youll be fine. oh, and they love to climb on things sop

the cage should have stories. dont feeds them oranges or lettuce. and not that much meat!!!!
Rats can eat everything. To have healthy rats though you can just bye the rat food they have in pet stores. They eat a mixture of different nuts and vegetables in their food.
Well they can eat scraps, nuts and all that type of stuff. I used to have a pet rat. What you cant feed them is like other animal foods because they will get sick. Good luck with your pet rat!
