Where do I find clothes FOR my pet rats?

i need help dressing my little ratty up for special occations there is no rat clothes on the internet pleez answerWhere do I find clothes FOR my pet rats?
Ooh.. don't want poor little ratty to go naked do we? But then again, maybe your rat would rather go nude. Let it all hang out. Make a statement.

Cute idea, though.

I don't think people sell clothes for rats. Maybe you should start a clothing line for rich rats.

You could get rich, who knows...

Wow. I'll shut up now. I'm very sleep deprived and don't have a life. don't mind me. ;)Where do I find clothes FOR my pet rats?
I ran across this when I was wondering the same question. I did find one site

www.theagilerat.com/ but that was the only one. They also have items for training. Seems to be a pretty good site. I am just looking for a sweater for him. Rats are very smart and loving...I had no idea but love mine!

I think that is totally disgusting!!! A pet rat??? Just how ';cute'; would that be? How are they considered ';pets';? That is gross, and I think you should let little ';Ben';, back out in the wild where he belongs. YUK !!!! Does he fetch your slippers??
First I want to say stop smoking what ever it is that you are smoking, but then i thought. . hey why not. If you have a sewing machine and a little bit of skill see what you can come up with yourself. Visit a pet store with dog clothing and just check out the style and how they are made. Then go come and take some paper towel and try to make a pattern using your rat as a guide. My mom used to always use paper towel to try out a sewing idea.

Here is the great part, get some good patterns that fit your rat, then open your own online store and sell them. I bet tons of people would want them.
Depends how big they are I guess, a ferrets clothes might fit
i heard that you can get a high combat multipliyer there but you need to defeat jack. ive beet this game goin on 5 times and iv never heard of archons gate is archons gate only on lost chapters because i have the original
That is because rats don't need clothes. Let them go all natural!!
It's too bad they don't make plus-size Barbie clothes. You'll probably have to make him/her an outfit.
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/Na鈥?/a>

those are made for ferrets, but if your rat is fully grown, and you buy the smallest size they have, it might fit.

I looked also, and didnt find rat clothes, but i did find hamster clothes (to small for a rat tho)
you better ask your rat what brand it prefers before you go out spending your money.
Aww!! My gosh, that is too adorable! I'm not sure where you can get clothes for them, I'll try using a few search engines *just in case* I come across something.. I'll also ask some of my friends.

I've seen ferrets with clothing, as well as those tiny Teacup poodles.. How big are your rats?
Its not too hard to make clothes, I'm sure you could do it! I hope the clothes would be temporary, as I'm sure your rattie's inclination to chew would take over eventually. =)
Ha ha ha ha. Make them if you can't buy them.
CLOTHS? FOR PET RAT? THAT IS THE WEIRDIST THING...

Sorry, dont know and stores, but I know if you have fabric, you can make your own

Which type of bedding is best for my rats?

Carefesh, Newspaper, or Shavings?

(I will only used approved shavings so don't worry about that)

I don't want it to be that expensive so I kind of want to use newspapers, but does that work good?

Any Tips?

I don't have the rats yet I'm getting them July 1 I am just setting up their cage nowWhich type of bedding is best for my rats?
Carefresh is the best. it works great. newspaper is harmful. any wood shavings can also harm your pet by scaping up their eyes, and things like that, but if you must use shavings, DO NOT use cedar shavings. carefresh is the best bedding to choose. but, do not use newspapers! hehe. i love rats, so have fun with the new ones! rats are awesome pets.Which type of bedding is best for my rats?
Greetings,

Carefresh - Not good with odor,And expensive But will do best as a base to a bedding.

shavings ( such as kiln dried pine , and aspen shavings) - 8.00-13.00 on average therefor non expensive,And great with odor, No need to use carefresh as base in order to stop odor from coming through,

* change you're rat/rats cage 3 times a week to once a week refreshing daily.

Newspaper is inexpensive, But ink may be toxic in some cases, But blocks their digestive system.and isn't good with odor.
Care Fresh or shavings.

Newspaper does not retain odor AT ALL, and trust me, rats stink. Also, the chemicals that are used for the ink of newspaper is harmful to rats.

If you want a cheap bedding, I recommend a fleece blanket. You can just shake off the poo every weekend and throw it in the washing machine. However, shavings only cost about $25 for a 10 pound bag.
Carefresh is the best. Shavings are really bad, they cause respiratory issues. Even the ';approved'; ones, which may be alright for rabbits and such, can be bad for rats.

Does having rats improve your social life?

I love my pet rats and find when I take them out with me every one talks to me and is never hostile. I am an older single man and find most other rat owners are attractive ladies! So having rats has given my social life a great boost. They are great when I take rats to parties but restaurant managers are not so keen when I let them run in the dining room LOLDoes having rats improve your social life?
My girlfriend got upset when she found one in the bedDoes having rats improve your social life?
you cannot seriously take rats to restaurants? That is against health and safety and the environmental health would close down any restaurant if your rats were to escape, no wonder they don't like it. I'm not too familiar with rats apart from love rats. What if you meet a woman who likes cats? lol!!
errrr... well.. i wouldn't exactly blame the restaurant managers for not being too keen on RATS being in their RESTAURANT.

i wouldn't say it would improve EVERYONE'S social life..maybe just in your case.

its the same as finding other people with the same hobbies attractive
I would imagine any pet that isn't very common would attract attention. My question is though, if you knew this worked then why ask o.O?

Bah I can't remember the movie at all, I just remember a guy and his house was full of rats, then he finally fell in love, but the rats at the end I guess were jealous and either killed him or didn't let him see the girl he liked, I wasn't sure. And I think he made the rats kill people too, I don't know. Any suggestions? What's the movie with the guy and rats?

Why are rats nicer than hamsters?

I went to the pet store and all the rats werent afraid they came up to me, and I could pet them. When I went to the hamsters they ran away, when I reach to pet them they bit me!Why are rats nicer than hamsters?
Rats are more intelligent and love attention from both rats and humans. Hell my rats loved attention from the dogs!

Rats are very social creatures where as hamsters like to live in solitude. If you got a hamster and handled it alot then it would probably tame up.

I've owned and bred many hamsters and rats. I have NEVER been bitten by a rat or even come across an aggressive one. I have been bit quite a few times by hamster and have had many very aggressive hamster who we have taken in and tamed up. But to tame them up we have alot of bites, not fun at all.Why are rats nicer than hamsters?
It's nothing to do with size, or tameness. Even a tame hamster is still grumpier than a tame rat. Rats are HIGHLY social, and very curious and intelligent. A strange hand wanders in, and they want to come say hi. Rats are happiest when they live with other rats, so them living together in a pet store makes them that much happier than hamsters in the same living conditions. Hamster like to be alone. I adore rats, they are loving and playful like dogs, but clean [even more so] like cats. They are great pets, and love to keep themselves busy. They interact with toys and new objects. If you were considering buying either, I would suggest rats. But get them from a breeder, and do your research. Pet store rats are notorious for bad health.
Rats are highly social animals. They enjoy the company of other rats and people. They also love to be active, they enjoy playing with people, and rats. Unlike hamsters, they are solitary animals. And arent excatly the actvie type. They prefer to be alone and do not like to be bothered. As you may of noticed.
Rats are just more social than hamsters are. Most hamsters prefer to live by themselves in solitude but rats enjoy the company of others including their human companions.I've been bitten by every hamster I've ever owned but never by my rats. If you're looking for a cute, cuddly , and SMART small animal for a pet then adopt a rat. You'll be so much happier.
hamsters are feisty, i don't think they're good pets at all. rats are sweeter, just as long as you don't mind people getting a little freaked out when the see them, they're great pets. they are also really really smart, you can train them like dogs if you want.

you can also look on www.petfinder.com the rats there might be in better condition then at the pet store.

    hope this helps,

    -Emily
rats are smarter then hamsters and can be handled better from my experience, i had 11 rats(now just one T_T) and my brother has 12 hamsters...the hamsters scream when we try to touch them and either wet themselves or try to bite us. My rats use to play with my hand and like to be held. I think hamsters are just skittish cause their brains are probably less tolerant
Hmmm..good question. Rats are bigger then hamsters, so your hand wouldn't seen so giant to them. Remember hamsters are nocturnal so it was probably sleeping when you tried to touch it. They are grouchy hen they are tired (just like me lol) but they aren't nasty.
Rats are more intelligent than hammys so they won't run away or bite often but hammys are timid creatures and they bite when touched.

But if your going to get one get the rat because rat are easy to litter train and they are sociable.
Well, it all depends on how much you handle them. If you were to get a hamster it would end up being like that.
Rats are smart, hamsters, not so much.

Are there rats in the White House?

I worked at the Federel Triangle years back, when Clinton was president %26amp; I remember the rats in %26amp; outside the buildings, as big as house cats, were all over the place. And they had no fear of humans. I was just wondering if they'd been exterminated or had spread? Are there rats in the White House?
Rats? Loads...both the four %26amp; two legged kind. Are there rats in the White House?
Yes, the government is paying an exurbanite extermination price for vermin in DC epically the White House due to security needs, plus we elected a rat to the office of Presidency

This one is too easy, yes most of the cabinet. And you're right they have no fear of humans.

I doubt it. I also doubt you.

What would be better for my two female rats?

i started out using the shredded egg cartons as bedding and then they really didn't like it so i changed it to the saw dust and i don't think that they like that either what would be best to put on the bottom of the cage for them? i have looked at the pet stores and i don't really see more then those two am i looking in the wrong places or what? What would be better for my two female rats?
You could try shredded aspen, its absorbant but at the same time it doesnt dry the air too much. Aspen is a perfectly safe wood to use, just avoid pine and cedar.

They love to dig and play in it - you can also add a handful of shredded paper and they will happily make nests with it!

    Hope this helps. =)

What would be better for my two female rats?
The best pest stores are petsmart, petco and petland. Check there if you have them near where you live. You need good bedding to make it comfortable for your rats and too keep the smell under control. If you cant seem to find it in your store i recommend buying it online.

Heres some helpful links to the kind of bedding that your should buy.

Pine bedding(refreshes the whole cage) http://www.petco.com/product/8850/Premie鈥?/a>

    http://www.petco.com/product/14472/Cozy-鈥?/a>

    http://www.petlanddiscounts.com/detail.a鈥?/a>

All these brands are really good. Until you buy one of them i suggest to put blankets(comfy but un-needed old ones are okay) underneath the cage and on top of the blankets or towels put newspaper shreddings and paper towel shreddings. That makes an okay bedding substitute.

Anyway good luck and i hope i helped. =)
Go to the pet store and get Carefresh or Yesterday's News. If you can't find them, ask an employee for help.

Also, never use cedar for rats, it hurts their lungs.
I use Carefresh for my rat and hamster. It's great..easy to clean and very little odor.

Do Gerbils,Rats, or hamsters have different nutritional values for snakes?

Specifically I have a ball python who is a super picky eater.Do Gerbils,Rats, or hamsters have different nutritional values for snakes?
about the same. if you can afford gerbils its one of there natural prey items, but it will never look at a mouse/rat again.HAHAHAH your choice.Do Gerbils,Rats, or hamsters have different nutritional values for snakes?
Snakes get all their nutritional requirements from the rodents they eat. It is basically the same for the ones you have listed provided that they are of appropriate meal size for each individual snake. In the wild, the ball python's favorite food is a rodent called the jeraboa and, it resembles a hamster somewhat. That is why hamsters are sometimes used to provoke picky ball pythons, especially imported adults. Different rodents, like the ones on your short list, produce there own chemical signatures that the python picks up. If a python does not recognize the chemical signature as prey, a picky eater can refuse the rodent. Scenting mice and rats with hamster litter is one effective trick used on ball pythons that are problem feeders. Not only can this spark their appetite sometimes but, it also gets them used to eating mice or rats and identifying them as food..... Current work is being done to produce a jerboa/mouse hybrid especially for ball pythons. Ball pythons that normally fast during the winter months continue to feed when offered this hybrid mouse. It is believed that the hybrid mouse carries some of the chemical signatures that the jeraboa does so, because ball pythons are naturally and instinctively wired to recognize this particular scent, they feed on this hybrid mouse without hesitation.
Ball pythons are very picky eaters i they are bought straight into the uk from africa captive bread tend to be less fussy as there used to eating mice or rats. I have a ball python which has to be forced fed at times but will be happy to a gerbil as its what the commonly eat in the wild in africa. you can dust the gerbil with vitamin powders to keep it healthy. If you have any concerns or you need any info email me i will be happy to help you out.

  • What to do about mites/lice on rats?

I just now found little bugs on my 8 day old rat pups and my other rats have them too including the momma. None of them had them before we moved. The pups are really skinny and they have big heads and they did not look like that before. they looked good until 2 days ago. I've had rats with this before when moved to this same house once before. Could it be the house? PLEASE HELP!!What to do about mites/lice on rats?
The vet is the place to go. It's possible you'll have a discounted price for multiple rats. The vet will likely give them a dose of Revolution or Ivermectin (more likely if they're babies), which works quite well for rat mites, fleas and lice. After that, you need to clean the entire area thoroughly. Use a bleach %26amp; water solution and clean every item in the cage. Throw out all wood items, or bake them. Wash any cloth items in the washer, and spray everything else with the bleach %26amp; water. Rinse it, then spray with vinegar to eliminate the harsh bleach smell. Rinse again and let them dry in the sun. Vacuum everything AROUND the area of the cage, and wash things in the vicinity. Hopefully that should do for the little buggers! What to do about mites/lice on rats?
Relax!!! Most of the time they will get mites and lice from the packaged bedding from the store. Im not sure if you can treat 8 day old rat pups with Ivermectin but you can mom. Just take her to the vet and they will give you and oral or topical cream for it. But in my opinion the oral Ivermectin works better. Its not very expensive either. Carefresh bedding is horrible for mites and lice in the bedding. A good tactic to this is to freeze the bedding before you put it in there cage. This kills any parasites in the bedding. I would call an exotics vet and ask them about what can be done. But in my experience with baby rats they shouldnt have there fur yet. So maybe you can get the ivermectin and treat mom and disinfect the cage and wont have anymore problems. Good luck and hope I helped.
If they are anywhere near a window they could be attracting bugs from outside. Call the vet and tell them your situation. They might require you to bring all of the rats in or they might juts give you the medication.
it could be the house !

go to vet to make sure!
take all of them to the vets- they will give you something to cure it

Cat's typically won't work if you do feed them... And I'm not sure I like cats any better than rats.

Moth balls, or a box of rat poison on top of the motor is your best bet. Parking the vehicles in high grass also seems to make it worse. Some round-up or some of that granulated stuff the co-op sells should keep the grass from growing up around them.Is there a trick for keeping pack rats out of vehicles stored in a junk yard?

    Land mines, bees, paintball guns.
    Some say moth balls work.
yes there is ,i own a shop and go and get you a box of moth balls and spread them all around in it ,mice and rats hate the smell of them, and they will leave it alone,i use them in some of my old cars ,and it works like a dream, but you have to add new ones after a few months they do loose there smell but it will keep them out of the cars, good luck hope this helps.

Cats. Lots and lots of cats. You don't even have to feed them. The rats take care of that.

Are rats the right pets for me?

I have a 40 gallon breeder tank from my bearded dragon RIP. I have been fascinated by their personalities and am interested in getting like three. The only thing is that i am kinda freaked out about being bitten. I own mice now but they stink and arent very social with me they would rather run away. Are rats the right pets for me?
ummm no to the cage. tanks and other plastic cages cause all rodents (especially rats) respiratory disease. try getting a barred cage. i just got this cage at petsmart and it is HUGE. its big enough to hold 2 rats. (yeah they need ALOT of room) go to here to see it...http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.js鈥?/a>

its pretty cheap for the size. if u take the wheel out they have lots of room, and considering they dont NEED a wheel, it wont harm them.

rats rarely bite. the only time they bite is if u are very unlucky and get an agressive rat, or if u scare them, and they are biting out of fear. to avoid getting an agressive rat, get a rat from a breeder, rescue, or shelter.

rats are veryyyy social. u need to make a lot of time to spend with them. like 2 hours or more a day. and they need a cage mate to play with. get same sex pairs (or triplets). make sure the rats have lived together for awhile or are siblings. if they are siblings, still dont get a boy and girl, they will still mate. good luck! :)

go to www.ratsamazeme.blogspot.comAre rats the right pets for me?
Rats make great pets. They are usually much more social and responsive to humans than mice. Any animal with mouth parts will bite when they feel threatened or are upset. That's the only defense they have.

A tank is not an appropriate habitat for a mammal. There is no proper air circulation in a tank. A mammal eats more frequently than a reptile and the waste buildup is much higher. Rats should ideally have a multi-level cage so they do not have to have their feet in their waste.

We have rats surrendered to our shelter who get good socialization. The male rats are neutered before adoption as their usine is particularly strong.

Please check out your local humane society (we also have a wonderful rat rescue in our county) before purchasing rats from a pet store.
I have had lots of pet rats. They are awesome pets believe it or not. Mine were so social, they wanted to be right there with me. The males do stink more than females though. They are not typically biters..I never had one that bit.. Mice, gerbils, hamsters, ect. are more prone to bite. If you go to a pet store, handle a few, cause some are really phsyco and are hard to hold. I found that buying a little bit older one that was handled more was better. You can always try Craigs list pet section, or a humane society for a nice pet....They don't live all that long and many develope tumors. Mine lived to between 2 and 3 and almost all had tumors, cancer when they died. But they are great little pets!!!
I quite like rats they are intelligent so u can train it not to bite u

But u have to answer that question for ur self really

Should i get 2 male rats or 2 female rats?

Im getting two rats i cant decide whether to get two males or two females. I need help! I need you to help me decide.Should i get 2 male rats or 2 female rats?
    I love both!!

Females-Prone to mammory tumors, TEND to be hyper, not always.

Males-Bigger, SOMETIMES fight 'cuz hormones. TEND to be layed back, not always. Cannot have oranges. More squishy.

I personally would like my next rats to be male because of the high risk of mammory tumors in females.Should i get 2 male rats or 2 female rats?
    Congrats!

Generally females tend to be smaller, quicker, more active and more prone to tumors.

Males are larger, generally more laid back, but go through a macho phase in their early months.

Really, each rat has their own personality so I'd go to a rescue if you want rats because they'd definitely know the personality and how the rat acts. =) Good luck
    Males

Smell nasty and are less energetic are Bigger and have bigger poop they can fight but can be housed together

    Females

Can easily be housed together , they smell nicer are more energetic, they are smaller dont mark territory .
i really like males but threy mark so much!

You are so right. Rats are really cool. My mom hates our rats but she is warming up to them. Have her hold one in the store. They are really social and love people. That's how we convinced my mom. She is still nervous but loves to feed them carrots. It may take a while but don't scare her with them. Just let her come to them.
You shouldnt be buying ONE rat anyway, they are social animals that need company. If you do more research, and visit www.rattycorner.com and www.dapper.au.com , you'll get loads of info on why rats make such great pets, which will help you convince your mum.

well, i have two rats.one is clean and the other is a complete slob.my rat steals food from the other and they fight alot.they make so much noise its annoying when im trying to sleep.they also drink water to fast.they always run out soon and i have to refill it an hour later.if you get a rat, get two.rats are pack animals and enjoy the company.find two that look like they like each other.rats are hard to take care of.they need to be played with at least an hour each day.you probably think u could do that.i thought it would be ok too but i can.my calender is to squished.i just dont have time for them any more.rats are very loving tho.they will just sit on ur shoulder and rest. did u know rats are clener than dogs?be prepared to get another cage if they fight non-stop.also they require a big cage.rats like to climb so u need a BIG cage with WIRE on the sides so they can climb.BUT the top lvl cant have wire, as if they step on it they will get a disese called bumble foot.you cant just go to the pet store and say OMG they are so cute lets get one.you need to learn about them.i hate ppl like u who just think it is so easy to go buy a pet because its cute.i bet u didnt even know about buble foot.

u did not do any research to own a pet. there fore, you are not fit to have a pet.i agree with ur mother that you SHOULD NOT have a pet as you do not care to research temperment and behavor of that animal.i bet u dont even know how to feed it properly.i always do research on a pet at least for a month before i decide to get one.

    hope i helped :)

So i heard that rats eat yoghurt. i got some at home but i was wondering if i could let them have some. it contains: skim milk, full cream milk, lactobacillus, Acidophilus Culture and Sucrose. i also got some greek yoghurt and sheeps milk yoghurt. help me plzWhat type of yoghurt is safe for rats?
While dairy in general isn't good for rats, a bit of yogurt on occasion is fine. We give our little guys yogurt with live cultures when they've needed antibiotics.

It's best to avoid sucrose or other sweeteners %26amp; go with low fat or nonfat yogurts. Since goat's milk is more digestable than cow's milk, I wonder if sheep's milk would also be preferable. We give our rats unflavored nonfat yogurt, including Greek yogurt. They love it, with or without fruit added.

What is the name of the park in Houston with the beaver-like neutra rats? :/

I've forgotten the name of it.. This park has a little bird cage, a walking trail, and is split into two parks across the street from each other. Can someone help me? I need to know what its called. What is the name of the park in Houston with the beaver-like neutra rats? :/
    Where in town is it?

We don't have nutria here in Houston, although we do have possums, raccoons, and (of course) rats. What is the name of the park in Houston with the beaver-like neutra rats? :/
Herman? McGregor? They both have trails and are split by streets. Almost every major park in Houston have a bird cage; unless this bird cage is of a specific height or width in which case, details would be nice.
I'm sorry I can't tell you what park it is. But William K, yes we do have nutria in Houston. I have one of em's pelt hanging on my wall. I shot it here in Houston with a long bow.
Yep, it's Elizabeth Kaiser Meyer Park, off Cypresswood Drive.

It's our favorite park. It's still got a bunch of nutria %26amp; doves and nasty stinky geese.

I believe you can find them at Brazos Bend State Park. Although this is prbably not the park you have in mind.
Meyer Park. Its on Cypresswood in Far North Houston. I know that nutria well.

What to do about mites/lice on rats?

Is there a trick for keeping pack rats out of vehicles stored in a junk yard?

Cat's typically won't work if you do feed them... And I'm not sure I like cats any better than rats.

Moth balls, or a box of rat poison on top of the motor is your best bet. Parking the vehicles in high grass also seems to make it worse. Some round-up or some of that granulated stuff the co-op sells should keep the grass from growing up around them.Is there a trick for keeping pack rats out of vehicles stored in a junk yard?

    Land mines, bees, paintball guns.
    Some say moth balls work.
yes there is ,i own a shop and go and get you a box of moth balls and spread them all around in it ,mice and rats hate the smell of them, and they will leave it alone,i use them in some of my old cars ,and it works like a dream, but you have to add new ones after a few months they do loose there smell but it will keep them out of the cars, good luck hope this helps.
get a farm cat. itll kill everything
Cats. Lots and lots of cats. You don't even have to feed them. The rats take care of that.
get you some rat poison. remember where the rats are the snakes will be. they also make snake poison. good luck.

Hmm. Can a rat or other rodents learn, like a dog can, how to trust you, know you, and understand things? Or are their brains simply too small to comperhend things like that.

I sort of want a rat, but it would be depressing if the things couldn't care less about me. What exactly are pet rats like?

seriously as far as im aware the only difference between rats and dogs is that dogs are bigger and live longer, and i think a LOT more people would have rats if they lived longer.

oh but be warned...they are addictive! i i got 2 rats and went back a week later for 2 more! then a few weeks ago i got another baby one cuz one of my other 4 is a lot smaller than the rest so i wanted her to have a little friend :D

then today i went to the pet shop (after a strict no more rats warning from my mum) and came home with a dumbo rat!

i had to sneak it in the house lol
YES rats are UH-MAZING pets they can swim and dig and you can take them outside with you! yes they will trust you mine like ppl to dealth i love rtas and have 2 at the moment GET A RAT (:
This site says why rats make good pets and what to look for when buying a rat: http://www.nicolesrats.synthasite.com/why-rats.php
Rats are really good pets. If u get 1 make sure u get a people rat.
Rats are very very intelligent animals! I'd compare them to dogs, they are personable, trainable, intelligent, and bond with their owners. Most other rodents are not as intelligent as rats, and they make spectacular pets.

They do trust and bond with their owners, even if you get a pair of them. (Which you should or else they become depressed easily.) You can train them commands and words to do tricks and they can learn their own names! Just be sure to handle the rats daily or else you may be disappointed because they won't get to know you.
Rats are awesome!!!!! They can learn their names and are VERY easy to train. They also have excellent memories (this is why they are commonly used in labs for behavioral studies and learning studies). Rats will sit on your shoulder and hang out. I think you'd be pleasantly surprised! :)

I have just bought rats two days ago they are babies and they are very fast how do i make em a bit slower?

Hey yeh they do not bite ir anything they are lovely rats but they are very fast.

is it because they're not use to me or something they are boys.I have just bought rats two days ago they are babies and they are very fast how do i make em a bit slower?
you need to let them settle in to their new home, limit your contact with them for the first day or two while they get used to their new environment, don't grab at them or otherwise frighten them or they will run away and never come to trust you. Start by offering them food/treats from your hand, put your hand in to the cage slowly as not to startle them, then gradually start getting them come to you for food as they start to trust you they will happily let you handle them without running away. If you have plenty of time at home you could try the way I tamed mine, I put only very little food in the cage when I wasn't there and mostly hand fed them, within a few days of moving gradually further away from the cage they would climb out of the cage and run right across the room to me to get food from my hand, and willingly scramble up my arm when I extend it to them.I have just bought rats two days ago they are babies and they are very fast how do i make em a bit slower?
Are they females?i have a female rat and she is very jumpy!First reason is because she is a baby just like your rats.Second because the females are jumpier than males and will calm down once they get older, but will still be a little jumpy. And third because she is in a new home, i bet this is why your rats are jumpy too.

If they are males than all baby rats are jumpy. And switching environments from pet store to your house can make them a little frightened or jumpy. When rats get older they won't be jumpy any more. but females can stay a little jumpy. There is no way to stop a rat jumpiness, it stops it self when it is calm and is adjusted.

    Hope I Helped! :D :D :D!

    Hope this helped!
Rats are very fast by handling them often you will get them used to you. They will sit on your shoulder if you let them but they always will be quick movers,it's not just that they are boys. Are you sure you have two boys? If not then you may soon have a lot more, rats start to breed early.
Boys will be calmer then females usually. Babies are just kind of hyper. I use to train my babies by putting them in a loose pocket or just putting them up on my shoulders. They'll calm down as they get older.
they are probably still getting used to you. my male rats were like speedy gonzalis when i first started getting them out, i found it hard to keep an eye on them
just kelp handeling them there will soon gain your trust just a bit scared at the moment

    Thanks

AmyRose xHow Long untill baby rats can be seperated from their mom!!?
Rats get fur and can walk at 2 weeks old. Rats can be separated from the mom at 4 weeks, although 6 weeks is suggested.

Andy DHow Long untill baby rats can be seperated from their mom!!?
    Hi,

Kittens can be seperated from their mother from a minimum of 6 weeks of age - this is also when you start introducing them to solid foods and reducing their protein intake.
you need to wait about 4-6 weeks, until they have fur, opened-eyes, and aren't eating from their mom. make sure you separate the boys from the girls!
I'm sorry but they can't be separated for about five weeks. Your gonna have to wait. they need to have their eyes and ears open and not be drinking their mom's milk anymore.
rats are weened from their mother at 21 days old and can fully take care of them selves from there.
    4-6 Weeks?

It's a very good idea to have a smaller, spare cage; it will come in handy if you need to quarantine a sick rat, introduce a new rat to a colony, or separate them when one is recovering from surgery. But I wouldn't recommend building one yourself -- you can buy an okay-sized cage for about $30, and a great-sized one for $50.

A recovery cage should be large enough to allow the rat to walk around -- no smaller than the size of an average suitcase. If your rat is injured or recovering from surgery, take out ramps, levels, and climbing things, since climbing could open a wound.

The cage will need a water bottle; I also like to put in a water bowl, clamped to the side so that it doesn't tip over. A food dish isn't too important; you can hide food around the cage, and scavenging for food will keep your rat entertained. Make sure you refresh the water frequently. Staying hydrated is very important, especially if the rat has had recent medical care.

Alleviating boredom will be important, so you should have interesting things in the cage: paper towels that he can turn into bedding, cardboard to chew, and any toys that he might like. For my boys, I will put some oats in a paper towel tube and then stuff the ends with tissues; that will keep them interested as they try to pull out the tissues.

Your rat may quickly become lonely; rats need to spend lots of time around other rats to be happy. But if it's necessary to keep them separated -- for example, if one is sick -- then a little extra human attention will help. Gently pet them, talk to them, or just put your hand nearby. Be very gentle, as sick/injured rats can be very fragile. Rest is important. Reunite them with their friends as soon as possible -- they can get neurotic when they're all alone!

My rats tend to like dark, enclosed areas, so I put a small cardboard box in the recovery cage -- the size of a large tissue box -- with a hole cut in it for easy access. That can provide a good place to curl up and nap. Darkness and quiet are good for a recovering rat, since it will help them rest.

Providing a variety of foods can also help. Baby food is a good source of nutrition, especially for older rats because it doesn't require chewing. Make sure your rat is eating frequently. If they aren't eating, it could be a sign of serious sickness.

So, there you go: your goal should be to provide a safe, quiet environment, well-stocked with food, water, and gentle stimulation.
It is probably easier and cheaper just to buy one. I have numerous small cages that I use as ';hospital cages';. You are correct, it is a good idea to have a spare cage.

Basically a hospital cage is simply a smaller cage that is used after surgery, illness, etc. It is use to quarantine(need a slightly larger cage), or keep a sick/injured rat in a smaller area to reduce exercise and movement to allow healing.
A hospital cage made for any small animal is always a good thing to have on hand. Simply, it only needs to be an extra cage with clean bedding and newspaper, no toys (they may get in the way while transporting your sick rat to the vet), and something your rat could hide in (I wouldn't exactly count this as a toy). No food or water should be in the cage (only because they would make an extra mess in the cage, they would take up valuable room for a sick rat, and your pet most likely won't be interested in eating or drinking, anyway).

Make sure the hospital cage is in a spot in your house where you can remember where it it. Keeping the cage clean and bug-free is a major plus, as well. Transporting your sick rat in a cage that's not clean would only make things worse. Cleaning the cage after one use would be smart, too. Hope this helps!
you could buy a small commercial cage from a pet store to transport your rat or you could put the rats in a cardboard box.

I agree, a cat would help a lot. Also, keeping your house very clean. Make sure there is no food on the counters or floor, not even crumbs. Switch your cereal boxes to plastic containers that they can't get into. We used mouse traps baited with peanut butter when we lived in apartment buildings. Unfortunatly you get other peoples rodents when you live in apartments. After about two months we only caught 3 or 4 mice, but they didn't return. We put the trap between the fridge and wall.Does anyone have any great ideas to get rid of mice %26amp; rats? I have tried traps, baits %26amp; peppermint oil... Help
You can buy a few cats and keep your yard cut and clean or debris like leaf piles, junk piles. Check your local livestock feed store for poison that really works. I prefer ';Just One Bite'; It seems to have a better kill rate over the baits you can get from a department store that just make the mice sick or thirsty.
D con or moth balls in attic and under house.
there is a posion called One Bite, it works great.

What toys do pet rats enjoy?

I have a female pet rat, Lily, and she has a wheel to run in, however I feel she needs some other toys too, but what are some other good and fun toys that rats would enjoy? What toys do pet rats enjoy?
this website right here is, from what i've seen, one of the best places to find rat toy ideas

but just remember that rats are social and maybe it might be a good idea to get her a buddy... another female rat of course, but hopefully this website will help you get some ideas for Lily

http://www.dapper.com.au/toys.htmWhat toys do pet rats enjoy?
she needs a friend for one!!! you can also make little puzzles for her(mazes) wrap up fruits in paper towels and it will excite her... having to break throught the paper towels to get the goodies! Also you can give her a toilet paper roll to rumble around with!! Like I said though... to liven her up... get her a same sex buddy!! = B
Like everyone else is saying, a friend is the best entertainment. (Just make sure to quarantine and introduce them properly, some other askers are having problems with this!) For my rats, I use mostly cat toys and bird toys. The little toys that cats bat around? My rats carry them around, chase them, and steal them from each other. Sparkly ones, the balls with little noisemakers inside and feathers on the end, and the shiny crinkly paper stuff are big hits. Then hanging bird toys or ladders can be very entertaining, too!

There are also a surprising many toys in the small animal section for hamsters, ferrets, rats and rabbits, which all work.
I find that cat toys make great rattie toys. They love the chew up little plastic balls and crinkly things. Mine love little tennis balls. They rip all the fuzzy stuff off, then chew through the rubber and stuff it with bedding.

Bird toys are also great! They hang from the cage and are hours of fun.

However, the best toys are the ones you can make at home. An empty tissue box, or paper towel tube stuffed with treats is great.

I spread some peanut butter on a paper towel and sprinkle all kinds of treats on it. Then I roll it up and stick it in the tube so they have to get it out of the tube and open the paper towel to get the treats. They go nuts over this!

Working for their treats is great for their mental well being. It encourages their natural foraging instincts.

Good luck and have fun inventing new toys!!
I got some ferret stuff, a crinkle tube and a hammock...they chewed both up and still use them though to burrow into. I also read in a rat book that filling a little container with dirt is fun for them to dig in, some plumbing tube connectors can be put in there for her to run in, they are pretty cheap at hardware stores and thick so couldn't be chewed up to easily.
stuff animal (rat aproprate) a little playground also a hamster ball!!!! =)

If one of my rats dies should i buy another one?

i have 2 male rats, both 5 months old and very healthy. when they get really old and say one dies at the ripe old age of 3 and the other one is still going strong, would it be fair of me to get another rat to keep him company, like a younger one. or would i just let him live out the rest of his days in peaceIf one of my rats dies should i buy another one?
Hi it's me again, from Pets at Home. We always recommend that if one rat dies, you leave the other one to live the rest of his life with a lot more attention! They are naturally social animals and therefore would need more stimulation when on their own.

When one dies, you may see the other pine for a few days, go off his food etc, but if you persevere with lots of attention, he will quickly get over it and just enjoy the extra time with you.If one of my rats dies should i buy another one?
I've been faced with this situation plenty of times and what I've discovered is that rats, like humans, also go through a grieving period. This can last a few days to months, but once that grieving period is over, it is usually a good idea to introduce a new rat. Rats are highly social and always need interaction so depriving him of interaction just because his cagemate died wouldn't really be fair. Some people choose not to wait a while before intorducing a new rat and that's ok too as long as the old rat does not have issues with the new rat. Basically, it would be best to eventually get a new cagemate. Hope I helped and goodluck!
if you do that, the process would be sort of hard. To avoid doing the process for the younger one wheen the 3 yr old dies you would get 2 younger male rats, and introduice themk to your older one. you can look more into it by searching at google...

edit: He's old, and if you want to avopid that hard process you could just spend alot of time with him and sooner or later hed die...
I have had the same situation, and I often find that rats prefer to be together than alone. I purchased a baby rat when one of my rats died, and the other rat was really happy to have company. She would spend a lot of time grooming and fussing over the new rat, but I would be careful and make sure they get along.
    Hiya Sarah B

Don't worry or think about it...they could both go together, Our two cats died last year..within two months, sisters aged 23 years old.
No, don't, two male rats will kill each other. (unless they are brothers, but even then it still is risky) ( I'm assuming you had brothers)
well males are VERY territorial so if he does lets say welcomes him in sure but if he doesn't dont leave him there all alone let him know your there for him

I would like to buy an airpistol that will kill rats. How much fps do I need to do this?

Is a Beesman P3 airpistol sufficient to kill ratsI would like to buy an airpistol that will kill rats. How much fps do I need to do this?
The Beeman will be more than satisfactory for killing rats. Pretty much any airgun will work, so long as you hit them well.

I don't know what kinda ';Ratzilla'; those other 'tards claim to have hunted, but they either need to learn how to shoot, or just stop lying.

BTW, shooting rats is a really good way to develop your instinctive shooting, providing you're somewhere where you won't damage anything or anyone.I would like to buy an airpistol that will kill rats. How much fps do I need to do this?
I suggest a 177 or a .22 either will do and as for fps most will achieve about 600ft per second
Spend a hundred bucks and get a .22 rifle. You can buy .22 caliber shotgun shells that have just enough *** in them kill rodents but not enought to damage the surroundings. Way more fun killing rats and the like with a 22 as opposed to a pellet gun
Why don't you just buy rat poison. You don't have to see them for this to work, unlike having to shoot them.
TONS cause you cant aim... HA wanker!!
With today's policing i would ask there advice on this if killing rats in your garden or land not with public access

and i think a pistol would just stun short riffle would be more

effective and police advice a must
any air rifle will work use .177 cal pellets. I would be careful outside you may hit someone or a window. rat pellets works real good. u dont want other animals eating them though.
just get a cheap pellet gun at walmart for about $40. If you want a bb pistol theres also a co2 one at walmart thats ot that expensive
An air pistol probably wont kill them, the fastest are only at about 300 fps, I recommend getting a cheap air rifle at walmart, the cheap kind shoot at 650 fps and are more than enough to do the job.

Is it true that the rats in New York city eat the cats?

Because they are biggerIs it true that the rats in New York city eat the cats?
Rats are omnivorous scavengers; they will eat anything (so a rat eating a dead cat is possible.) While rats can get surprisingly large, the average cat will still be bigger than the average rat.Is it true that the rats in New York city eat the cats?
Yes, and the alligators eat the dogs. It's balanced that way.
Only the Chinese and Korean ones.
Where did you hear this? I think that may be an urban legend.
Oh I wish! My cats could use a natural enemy, they rule the world the way things are.
    no. not true
    lol, no.

    It's a joke.
    What???
  • What are the pros and cons of hosting the Olympics in a city
  • Is anybody knows, place where i can Get rid of my baby rats? i can ship them?

Please try to find a Rat Rescue organization. There are several rat groups on Yahoo!Groups and you can post there or ask about rat rescues at your local Humane Society. Don't take them to the pet store to become snake food.Is anybody knows, place where i can Get rid of my baby rats? i can ship them?
burn them nowIs anybody knows, place where i can Get rid of my baby rats? i can ship them?
You can take them to the Humane Society, where they will be put up for adoption!
Well, if you have a local pet store you can give them away, or you can go to www.craigslist.com and sell them with a free classified ad online! I see rats on there all the time for like $10 each to good families. If you give them away for free they will most likely end up as reptile chow.
Rats are great pets, look at your local pet stores many of them will buy or take rats that you give them as long as they are healthy. I used to have three pet rats that the store was selling as feeders. You can tell them you want yours sold as Pets
Pet stores will usually take them.. snake food.
    sell them to a petstore
    Give them a whirley
if they are 3 mouths or yonger sell them to a pet store
Here in Plano Texas I took a couple of litters over to the Outdoor Learning Center. They started a colony with them, to be used in feeding Katy the giant python, and other snakes.
    You can ship them, sure.

But you can just let them free. Rats really love to be free. And there's no fine for that, unless you do it off the side of a road.
The local zoo might accept them, but they would use the rats as live food for the reptiles. I know this sounds mean.
I'm assuming that you want to find good pet homes for your babies. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Ask around your neighbourhood, ask friends, ask at schools

Put an ad in the paper

I wouldn't trust pet stores to sell your rats just as pets

Humane Societies are good because they are required to find pet homes for all animals. But if they can't find homes for the rats, they will euthanize them.

Look into shipping, it can be very expensive and most outlets will not take the responsibility of shipping live rodents.

I would love to take them but I have over 50 rats to care for right now.

When should I introduce my rats?

I have a new female rat who is smaller than my existing female. After I go through all the steps like putting their cages together and swaping cages and all of that, when should i introduce them? I have tried once and failed my older rat latched on to the younger ones neck... So when is the right time? When should I introduce my rats?
    How to introduce rats: http://www.bruxnboggle.com/forum/viewtop鈥?/a>

Biggest thing is going slow. The person who said rats shouldn't be put together are uninformed and shouldn't be posting here. Rats are HIGHLY social, and 99% of the time would rather have a cage mate than none at all. Usually the 1% that doesn't live well with other rats are due to social problems from an early age -- no interaction ever with rats, usually male, traumatic experiences, etc.

When you do introduce htem out of the cage, do it in a neutral territory. Often a bathtub is a good option. I've heard that a person put pudding on their rats fur, which makes them more interested in getting the pudding off than hurting each other. You may have to do these short introductions on neutral territory MANY times before they finally get used to each other. NO BLOOD NO FOUL. Even if your bigger rat pins down the little one, and the little one screams bloody murder.... if there is no blood, there is nothing wrong with what they are doing. They have to be able to sort out their hierarchy on their own.

Let the small rat into the big rat's cage on occassion with the big rat OUT, and put the big rat in the small rat's cage ( again, NOT together). They will get used to smelling the other's scent in their area. When you do finally move them into the big cage, make sure you remove EVERYTHING, clean the cage with a bleach solution, and wash any hammocks, food dishes, etc. Put hammocks and stuff back in a different location than it was before. ALSO: put the cage in a different room than where it normally is. This helps to remove any extra territoriality the bigger rat may have over her space.

Good luck! When should I introduce my rats?
Before introducing rats, it is very important to quarantine them to prevent the spread of any germs or airborne illnesses. Quarantining means separating the rats in a completely different air space for up to 3 weeks, and then introducing them.

Speaking from personal experience, I did not quarantine my rats long enough, and one of them had an upper respiratory infection while the other did not. Because I failed to keep them apart for over 3 weeks, now they both have upper respiratory infections. This error has cost me a few hundred dollars in vet bills (but I love my rats so this is no big deal) and lots of medicine that they hate taking.

So please quarantine your rats before introducing them.

Otherwise, take your time with introducing them. Put their cages in the same room where they can see/smell/hear each other but cannot reach each other through the bars of their cage. Do this a few times a day until they are comfortable with each other.

Fur further details, please view the links I provided. There are a lot of web resources out there!

whenever I got new rats the way that i have done it is to put them on the bed or in a neutral territory make sure that you have cleaned the cage very well because the older female is very territorial. I also find that 2 females together fight more than having 2 males or a male and a female together. Good luck and I hope for the best
i have never done this with mine, but i was told once to introduce them in the ';dry'; bathtub, no smells of either rat in there and then watch them carefully until they start to get along. also make sure each rat has its own hut to go to so it can have a space
It is not a good idea to introduce rats because they sometimes fight until one of them dies.
you cant put to girls together they will kill each other

Is it ok to give rats frootloolps?

I was wondering if I could give my rats frootloops on a string? Please dont answer if you dont know!Is it ok to give rats frootloolps?
As a rare treat this would be ok. But I would not give them this treat more often than every 2-3 months. Too much sugar can cause health issues. Is it ok to give rats frootloolps?
yeah thats fine... not too many of course cause you don't want them to be unhealthy. but as a treat that would be just fine. rats can eat almost anything and be okay... but here is a list of food to be careful with

    http://www-personal.umich.edu/~bclee/rat鈥?/a>
ok i would not because of the sugar and thats not good for rodents try giving it hony nut cherois good luck! have fun with your little pet!
I would suggest against it. Frootloops are very high in sugar and could make your rat sick. Try regular cheerios, my rats love them! :D

    Good luck =)
thats true.. frootloops have too much sugar and i don't think it would be so good for your rat.. i prefer cheerios
No-- too much suger--try corn flakes or cheerios
    They are fine, in moderation!

How is your rat or rats with strangers?

my rats never meet strangers. but i had to take my rat kenai to the vets today, there was a few people in reception and i was worried he would freak out. but the nurse on the front desk held him and he enjoyed that, and he was on the counter and he thoroughly enjoyed being stroked by these kids that came in. he even licked one of them. How is your rat or rats with strangers?
All 3 of my girls really enjoy meeting new people. Mallie just knows when she is around people that do not like rats. She will do anything she can to get to that person. She is relentless and will not give up until she has met them. She thinks she is a rat advocate, she has already changed at least 4 peoples minds about rats! Go Mallie! How is your rat or rats with strangers?
    Hi!

My ratty, Jazz, doesn't really like new people unless they've visited him a few times.

It's not that he's unfriendly, he just isn't comfortable. He'll sniff them but he won't leave the comfort of my shoulder unless he's smelt them at least a few times over a few weeks, lol.

He finally went onto my other half today for a cuddle but panicked because I moved slightly away from him and wanted to come back to me immediately, bless :)

He goes to my Mum, though, because she gives him treats even though I tell her not to! Hehe :)
My blue male and my blue female are very friendly with strangers. They arent as comfortable with them as with me (obviously), but will sit quietly on their hands or shoulders until I pick them back up. My black and white male and female (funny how the colors worked out, because none of them are related) are much more skittish, and it takes extra time on my part to get them to be held. They dont bite or attempt to bite anyone though, so for that im thankful :-)
Pet rats are very good with other humans and children. Thats why they make good pets. The woman at the front desk obviously knew how to handle him, but the kids im not sure if you would of wanted them to pick him up. But for the future, they do like humans and they love to be handled if handled the right way!

Good luck and Hope this helped!
My rat is very good with meeting new people. I sometimes take her out on my shoulder, and the neighborhood kids love coming up and holding her. She's very good-natured about it and puts up with quite a bit!
thats great! my rat lacy loves people and even goes up to my cat! but my other rat peanut is very skiddish so if your rats ever get nervous or anything around people its ok. rats are very social and loving animals
    My rat Otis LOVES people.

And my rat Aaden is a little shyer but warms up quickly.

Its just depends on their personality.
Mine are perfectly fine with everyone they've met.

What are the differences between rats and mice physiologically and anatomically?

Rats are basically really big mice.

What did soldiers do about rats?

In the trenches in WW1, what did the soldiers do about the rats in the trenches? (Another question for my project) :)What did soldiers do about rats?
I have just done this at school, and i learnt that they just had to learn to put up with them crawling over them.

While the soldiers tried to sleep at night they could feel the rats crawling all over them, and some would wait untill the rats were on their legs, then suddenly bend their legs upwars, sending the rats flying.

Some men would try and shoot the rats but this wasn't a good idea as the gunshot noise could set some shooting from the opposition off, so basically, it was just another thing they had to put up with xWhat did soldiers do about rats?
They would kill them when they could, often with a spade or their entrenching tool. I have also read that sometimes they would make an entertainment of it and keep score of who killed the most.

I have also read that they would spike a bit of old cheese on the end of a bayonet attached to a rifle and when a rat came along they would shoot it.

Rat sauteed or fricaseed, with sautee use a slightly bigger rat. Also rat au van if the rat has not been too squashed by the van! These recipees are coutesy of Blackadder goes forth.
They really couldn't do much or else their enemy could have heard them, but i guess they threw them out of trenches and or killed them.
Taped up their hind quarters, to stop them splitting. Hey it got lonely in the trenches!
they used them for entertainment like shooting them etc

Mrs Frisby and the Rats Of Nymh question?

In the end, when the two rats died, was one of them Justin? He was my favourite character and I was just wandering, if anyone has read the sequels, if Justin is still alive, and who the two rats were who did die.Mrs Frisby and the Rats Of Nymh question?
i read the other two books, though they were by a diff author..

justine did not die. the two rats that did were just rats that we never knew, in fact, one was just that, a rat, not from nimh(and it is nimh)

just a loney rat that was living with them. justin lives!Mrs Frisby and the Rats Of Nymh question?
It's been a long while, but I think one was Nicodemus and I can't remember the other rat's name, but I don't think it was Justin.

What exactly are pet rats like?

Hmm. Can a rat or other rodents learn, like a dog can, how to trust you, know you, and understand things? Or are their brains simply too small to comperhend things like that.

I sort of want a rat, but it would be depressing if the things couldn't care less about me. What exactly are pet rats like?
    theyre tiny litle geniuses! lol

seriously as far as im aware the only difference between rats and dogs is that dogs are bigger and live longer, and i think a LOT more people would have rats if they lived longer.

oh but be warned...they are addictive! i i got 2 rats and went back a week later for 2 more! then a few weeks ago i got another baby one cuz one of my other 4 is a lot smaller than the rest so i wanted her to have a little friend :D

then today i went to the pet shop (after a strict no more rats warning from my mum) and came home with a dumbo rat!

i had to sneak it in the house lolWhat exactly are pet rats like?
YES rats are UH-MAZING pets they can swim and dig and you can take them outside with you! yes they will trust you mine like ppl to dealth i love rtas and have 2 at the moment GET A RAT (:
Rats are very very intelligent animals! I'd compare them to dogs, they are personable, trainable, intelligent, and bond with their owners. Most other rodents are not as intelligent as rats, and they make spectacular pets.

They do trust and bond with their owners, even if you get a pair of them. (Which you should or else they become depressed easily.) You can train them commands and words to do tricks and they can learn their own names! Just be sure to handle the rats daily or else you may be disappointed because they won't get to know you.
rats can comprehend many things they are very intelligent this may sound weird but many old philosophers say that at one point rats where more advanced than humans and remember the size does not always show the capacity
Rats are very smart and wonderful pets. They can learn

their name and come when called. I had the most amazing

rat and he would run around the house and come when called.

H would find ways out of his cage and be in bed with me in the

are equivalent to a cat or dog in that they understand and they

love to have interaction. I would get one or preferrably two

Rats are awesome!!!!! They can learn their names and are VERY easy to train. They also have excellent memories (this is why they are commonly used in labs for behavioral studies and learning studies). Rats will sit on your shoulder and hang out. I think you'd be pleasantly surprised! :)
Rats are really good pets. If u get 1 make sure u get a people rat.

Wow..our rats have Rat Fairy's that come and clean at night! Wonder where your's went.

Our rat cage cleaning day is Wednesday as well. Must be a good day.
    Ummm I don't think, they can clean it themselves, maybe make them a lil broom with a tooth brush....hehe cute...and remember, this is what my mum used to say '; you wanted the darn animal, so you look after it, they can't do it themselves, they are dependant on you';
Put a mind controlling chip into their brains. Whenever you activate it their at your command. Soon you'll go from cleaning out cages to world domination!
I'll bet they'd clean out your cage if they could. And they'd take extra care to get all of the wood shavings out of your water bowl.
I have always found that asking politely the first time usually gets the job done.
LOL im sorry but i think you have to do the cleaning :(
    LOL

I don't think they are gonna listen!

Just give them a spot where they take care of there business..instead of letting someone brake in %26amp; do it..and if u don't wanna do it no more..try giving the rats away to someone that will treat them right!
    Does it smell bad?
Let your brothers care for them for about 2 weeks. Then they will really appreciate you and do whatever you say.

Wondering how many snake owners on Yahoo Answers do live vs. frozen mice/rats?

Both of my ball pythons and my red tailed boa only likes live rats and refuses to eat anything frozen or pre-killed, is it me or the snakes?

What does your snake(s) prefer?Wondering how many snake owners on Yahoo Answers do live vs. frozen mice/rats?
Don't worry Mr. Lopez, it's not you. All animals have preferences, even snakes. In general ball pythons will only eat live. Some can get them to eat FT or PK, but not very often. Red-Tails usually eat either way but it seems that yours prefers live. There is nothing wrong with them or you.Wondering how many snake owners on Yahoo Answers do live vs. frozen mice/rats?
My baby ball python will only eat live, i tried for a month to feed him frozen/thawed mice. When it comes to food, he response better to heat, he also knows the bag that i bring it in.
My snakes get thwacked (semi-live) rodents. We've done frozen prekilled, but we have a few that refuse anything that doesn't at least twitch a bit...
All my collection is fed f/t rodents and chicks except for one ball python that only excepts fresh killed mice.
All my snakes are fed ';Thwacked'; rodents as well. We've used F/T and P/K before, but proved to be less than convenient, time wise.
generally lizards prefer pre-killed, snakes like the live rats better so don't worry it's the snakes not you

Is it ok to feed rats white chocolate on rare occasions?

Chocolate generally isn't good for pets because it contains two chemical stimulants, theobromine and caffeine, that can make them sick if enough is ingested. Cacao powder has the highest concentration of these chemicals, then dark chocolate, then milk chocolate, etc. White chocolate has only trace amounts because it has no cacao powder in it, just cacao butter.

Rats eat what people eat - it's part of why they're such a successful species. So most things that we eat are just fine for them. White chocolate does have a lot of fat and sugar, so you don't want to use it as a staple, but it's perfectly fine as an occasional small treat. Don't give them a big chunk of it because eating too much fat at one time can give them diarrhea. Is it ok to feed rats white chocolate on rare occasions?
You're not supposed to give them stuff like that but i have 4 and i do it occasionally. As long as its not often and only a little bit, it's probably not gonna do any damage. My rats love kool whip and chocolate pudding too, lol.

I also heard that too much fatty foods can accelerate the growth of mammary tumors so if they have one I wouldn't give them any.Is it ok to feed rats white chocolate on rare occasions?
mine have had dazzle drops, %26amp; milkybar and the biggest choc face is 2 in may so I think its OK rats are rats not dogs or cats and there is not much they can't have they are more suited to human foods than any other pet out there.
    no

but you can feed them dark chocolate on occasions

but the only reason why you would is to help with breathing problems if they have it
i heard that mice LOVE chocolate, and rats are pretty close, so i guess you could give your rats chocolate on rare occasions.
NO!!! Chocolate will make it very sick and possibly even kill it. Very bad idea!
obviously YOU havent been doing any research at all... don't blame us if your poor rats die. RODENTS CAN NOT EAT CHOCOLATE!
NO! It willmake them reaallly sick, and if you feed it too much, they will die!!!!!
